Welcome to Crossroads Early Intervention and Training (EIT)
At Crossroads EIT, you will discover a warm and inviting space where every child's strengths are discovered and early intervention ensures a path toward success. Our compassionate, multidisciplinary team uses a holistic approach to help every child and family build a healthy foundation to not only grow but to thrive!
Who we are and how we got started.
The Child & Family Center (CFC) was created by Dr. Adeline Tryon in 2005. For almost 20 years, The CFC has offered comprehensive assessments and evidence-based treatment to children, teens, and adults. Over the past decade, the mental health needs of our community have intensified due to many reasons, including the pandemic, social media, intergenerational trauma, and barriers to treatment often found in rural communities. There are also many systemic barriers to mental health care, including insurance barriers, a lack of providers, very few assessment services on the shore, and a reactive mentality toward mental health rather than a preventative model of care.
In 2022, the CFC was awarded grant funding through the Wicomico County Local Management Board to offer developmental assessments to children birth through 5-years old who have experienced or who are at risk of experiencing Adverse Childhood Events (ACEs). This includes a wide range of events, including abuse, neglect, homelessness, and poverty, as well as substance exposure in utero, prematurity, and developmental delays.
In December 2023, Crossroads Early Intervention & Training (EIT) was formed. This non-profit project falls under The Child & Family Foundation umbrella, which has supported 1 Year to Empowerment for the past 10 years. Dr. Samantha Scott, Founder of The Child & Family Foundation, gladly welcomed Dr. Angela Rathkamp as Executive Director of Crossroads EIT. Dr. Rathkamp has over 12 years of experience offering play therapy to little ones and supervision to clinicians in training. Dr. Scott also has extensive experience in assessment, supervision, and helping children and families who have experienced trauma and disrupted attachment.
In July 2025, additional grant funding through the Wicomico County LMB and Maryland Community Health Resources Commission enabled us to continue and expand our efforts to serve more children and families, as well as extend our reach into Worcester County. Through this and other local funding, by the end of June 2026, we will have completed approximately 200 comprehensive developmental assessments, 50 autism evaluations, and over 3300 hours of intervention services.
In less than 3 years, the results of this project have been tremendous. By circumventing insurance and offering preventive care, these little ones have been afforded comprehensive, holistic services that foster their social, emotional, behavioral, and cognitive development, as well as family services that promote healthy attachment and positive parenting skills.
Crossroads EIT also strongly believes in offering state-of-the-art training for the next generation of clinicians, ensuring that high-quality, holistic care can be provided to an increasing number of families across the Lower Eastern Shore. For the current training year, we welcome 3 undergraduate psychology students, 3 master’s level students, and 1 postdoctoral fellow.
Crossroads EIT is an out-of-the-box, multidisciplinary, preventative mental health initiative. We think big, and we are motivated to ignite what we believe is, will, and should be, a groundbreaking and revolutionary approach to mental health care. We believe our multidisciplinary, whole-family approach will not only change the lives of the children we serve, but also our community and future generations to come. We are beyond appreciative to share our vision with you and to have your support on our journey!
